The Bay Area's Robotics Infrastructure Partner
From our Mountain View headquarters, SVRC delivers robot leasing, teleoperation data collection, and pilot program support across the entire San Francisco Bay Area — from San Francisco and Oakland to San Jose, Berkeley, and every city on the peninsula in between.
Why the Bay Area Leads World Robotics
The San Francisco Bay Area is the global center of gravity for robotics. No other region on Earth concentrates this much robotics talent, research output, venture capital, and commercial deployment in one metro area. Understanding why is important context for what SVRC does here.
The region's dominance starts with two universities. Stanford University and UC Berkeley together produce more robotics PhD graduates than any other pair of institutions in the world. Stanford's AI Lab (SAIL), Robotics Lab, and IRIS Lab drive foundational research in manipulation, learning from demonstration, and sim-to-real transfer. Berkeley's BAIR Lab and AUTOLAB lead in dexterous grasping, reinforcement learning for robotics, and open-source robot learning frameworks. These labs are where technologies like ALOHA teleoperation, ACT policies, and RT-2 foundation models were developed or validated — and their graduates go on to found or lead the robotics companies that cluster around the Bay.
On the industry side, Google DeepMind operates one of the world's largest manipulation research teams in Mountain View. Waymo runs autonomous vehicle operations across Mountain View and San Francisco. NASA Ames Research Center in Moffett Field has been developing space robotics and autonomous systems for decades. Toyota Research Institute in Los Altos focuses on home manipulation. Figure AI in Sunnyvale is building humanoid robots for industrial deployment. Hundreds of smaller robotics startups — in manipulation, locomotion, perception, and autonomous systems — are distributed across the peninsula, East Bay, and San Francisco.
The venture capital concentration amplifies everything. Sand Hill Road firms like Andreessen Horowitz, Khosla Ventures, Sequoia Capital, and Lux Capital collectively deploy billions into robotics and AI annually. This capital funds the hardware purchases, hiring, and infrastructure build-out that drives demand for SVRC's services — leased robots, data collection, and pilot programs that let funded teams move fast without building everything from scratch.
Where We Serve Across the Bay Area
SVRC operates a hub-and-spoke model from our Mountain View headquarters at 1117 Independence Ave. We deliver hardware, run on-site data collection campaigns, and provide in-person support across the full Bay Area.
Mountain View / South Bay (HQ)
Our home base. Same-day hardware pickup, walk-in demos, and full lab access. Covers Mountain View, Sunnyvale, Santa Clara, Cupertino, and Los Altos. This is where our teleoperation lab, repair workshop, and full hardware inventory are located.
San Francisco
30 minutes from Mountain View via 101. We regularly deliver and pick up lease hardware in SF, and run on-site data collection campaigns at SF-based robotics companies. The city's SoMa and Mission districts host a growing cluster of robotics and AI startups.
Oakland / Berkeley
35 minutes from Mountain View via 101 to 880 or the Dumbarton Bridge. UC Berkeley's BAIR Lab and AUTOLAB make this a major robotics research hub. We serve Berkeley research groups with hardware leases and data collection support, and deliver to Oakland-based logistics and manufacturing companies running automation pilots.
San Jose
20 minutes south on 101. San Jose's North First Street corridor and Alviso industrial district host manufacturing and fulfillment operations that are adopting robotic automation. We serve these facilities with cobot leases, pilot programs, and mobile robot evaluations.
Peninsula (Menlo Park, Redwood City, San Carlos)
15 to 25 minutes north on 101. This corridor includes Meta's Reality Labs (VR/AR for teleoperation), several defense robotics companies, and the VC offices on Sand Hill Road. We frequently deliver demo hardware for investor presentations and support pilot programs at peninsula-based corporate labs.
Fremont / Newark / Union City
25 minutes east via 237 or the Dumbarton Bridge. Fremont's industrial base includes Tesla's factory and a dense cluster of contract manufacturers. We support automation pilots at manufacturing facilities in this corridor.
Bay Area Robotics Teams We Serve
SVRC works with robotics teams across the full spectrum of the Bay Area ecosystem. Here are the categories of teams that use our services most heavily.
Manipulation Startups
Companies building pick-and-place, assembly, packaging, or sorting robots. They need robot arms for development, teleoperation data for training learned policies, and hardware for customer pilot deployments. This is SVRC's core customer segment — we understand the hardware-to-data-to-policy pipeline because we operate it every day.
Autonomous Vehicle Sensor Teams
Waymo, Zoox, Cruise, and their supply chain need perception systems tested in controlled environments. SVRC provides structured evaluation setups and calibration fixtures for LiDAR, camera, and radar sensor testing using our teleoperation infrastructure.
Biotech and Pharma Labs
South San Francisco's biotech corridor and Stanford Medical Center labs are exploring robotic automation for liquid handling, sample processing, and lab logistics. SVRC leases cobots for evaluation programs at these facilities and supports integration testing.
University Research Groups
Stanford, Berkeley, UCSF, and UC Santa Cruz researchers need flexible access to robot platforms for experiments. Monthly leases, data collection services, and academic pricing make SVRC a practical alternative to purchasing hardware through slow university procurement processes.
Bay Area Robotics Events
The Bay Area robotics community is unusually active in person. Regular meetups, workshops, and conferences keep the ecosystem connected and create opportunities for collaboration that do not exist in other regions.
SVRC Demo Days (Quarterly)
Open-house events at our Mountain View lab where anyone can try robots hands-on, meet our team, and learn about leasing and data collection services. Free to attend, no registration required. Check our events page for dates.
Bay Area Robotics Meetup
One of the largest robotics meetup groups in the world, with monthly events across Mountain View, San Francisco, and Berkeley. Talks range from academic research presentations to startup demos to hands-on build sessions. SVRC sponsors and hosts several of these events annually.
IEEE RAS Bay Area Chapter
The local chapter of IEEE Robotics and Automation Society holds technical talks and workshops in the South Bay. Events typically focus on specific technical domains — manipulation, locomotion, perception — and draw researchers and engineers from across the region.
ROSCon and ICRA
When ROSCon or ICRA rotate to Bay Area venues, the local robotics community turns out in force. SVRC participates as an exhibitor and makes demo hardware available for conference workshops. These events bring global robotics talent to our doorstep.
Full Service Across the Bay Area
Every SVRC service is available across the entire Bay Area. Hardware delivery, on-site data collection, and in-person pilot support reach all the sub-regions listed above.
Robot Leasing
Monthly, quarterly, and annual leases on robotic arms, humanoids, quadrupeds, and teleoperation kits. Same-day pickup from Mountain View or next-day delivery across the Bay Area. Lease-to-own available on annual contracts.
Teleoperation Data Collection
End-to-end data collection campaigns using ALOHA bimanual, VR single-arm, or exoskeleton glove teleoperation. Available at our Mountain View lab or on-site at your Bay Area facility. Delivered in HDF5 or LeRobot format.
Pilot Programs
Structured 4-to-12-week pilots at your Bay Area facility. Hardware selection, deployment planning, operator training, data capture, and reporting. Built for enterprise teams validating robotic automation before scaling.
Repair and Maintenance
Drop off at our Mountain View workshop or ship to us from anywhere in the Bay Area. Motor replacement, sensor recalibration, firmware updates, and full overhauls. Most repairs completed in 3-5 business days.
Events and Demos
Quarterly demo days at our Mountain View lab, hardware for Bay Area conference workshops, and private demos for teams evaluating platforms. We also bring robots to your office for team demos and executive presentations.
